HOW TO CLEAN YOUR COATS ?

An essential piece of equipment for biker protection, the coat has become an iconic piece for motorcycle enthusiasts. But do you know how to clean your motorcycle coat ?

In this section, you will find all the necessary steps for maintaining your coats BERING, whether it is leather or textile material.

CLEANING YOUR LEATHER

1.Preparation:

  • Before starting, make sure you have all the necessary tools: a soft sponge, a clean microfiber cloth, a mild soap (such as Marseille soap or regenerating soap), a leather-specific cleaner, a leather conditioner, and a protective coating (optional)
  • Remove the armor inserts and the lining from the jacket

2. Dusting

  • Use the soft sponge to dust the leather blouson. This will help remove surface dirt and dust particles

Pre-test: Before applying any cleaning product to the entire blouson, perform a test on a small inconspicuous area to ensure the product does not cause discoloration or damage.

3. Cleaning

  • Lightly dampen the soft sponge with lukewarm (demineralized) water
  • Apply a small amount of mild soap to it
  • Lightly lather the sponge by gently rubbing the leather jacket in circular motions (avoid using excessive pressure, as this could damage the leather)
  • Clean one small section at a time, rinsing the sponge regularly and wringing it out
Stain removal: If your leather blouson has stubborn stains, you can try using a specific leather cleaner. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application and stain removal.

4. Rinsing:

  • Once you have finished cleaning the entire jacket, rinse the sponge to remove any soap residue
  • Wring it out
  • Wipe the leather jacket with the slightly damp sponge to remove any soap residue

5. Drying

  • Gently blot the leather jacket with a clean microfibre cloth to remove ewcess moisture (Never hang the jacket up to dry, as this could distort its shape)
  • Leave it to dry flat in a well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight or any source of heat

6. Conditioning and protection:

  • Apply a good quality leather conditioner to moisturise and soften the leather
  • Follow the product instructions carefully
  • (Optional) Apply a protective product to prevent stains and future damage

CLEANING YOUR TEXTILE

1. Preparation:

  • Gather all necessary tools: a soft brush, a clean cloth, lukewarm water, mild soap (such as for delicate clothing) and a specific stain removerfor stubborn stains
  • Remove the shells and lining from the jacket/coat

2. Dusting

  • Use a damp cloth to remove surface dust and dirt particles

Stain Pretreatment: If your blouson has stubborn stains, gently apply an appropriate stain remover to the stained area. Follow the product instructions and let it sit for the recommended duration.

3. Hand Cleaning:

  • Fill a sink or bucket with lukewarm water and add a mild soap
  • Dip the clean cloth into the soapy solution and wring it out to remove excess water
  • Gently clean the jacket by lightly rubbing the dirty areas
  • Focus on the areas most prone to dirt, such as the elbows, cuffs and collar
CAUTION: Do not scrub hard/with anything other than a soft cloth, to avoid damaging the fabric.

4. Rinsing:

  • Rinse the clean cloth with clear water and wring it out
  • Then wipe down the jacket to remove any soap residue. Be sure to rinse all areas thoroughly

5. Drying:

  • Gently blot the excess water from the blouson with a clean, dry towel
  • Do not wring the jacket, as it may deform the fabric
  • To dry, hang it on a hanger or lay it flat in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or any source of heat (Avoid using a tumble dryer, as this may damage the fabric)

Additional Care: If your textile blouson is equipped with a removable lining, follow the manufacturer's specific instructions to clean it separately. Some textile blouson may also benefit from a waterproofing application to maintain their water resistance.

CLEANING YOUR GORE-TEX

1. Preparation:

  • Remove the shells and lining from the coat/jacket
  • Read the manufacturer's care instructions carefully
  • To remove stains and dirt, we recommend using a liquid detergent during a prewash. If your machine does not offer a prewash, soak your garment in warm water with liquid detergent.

2. Cleaning:

  • Wash the GORE-TEX garment in the machine at 40 °C
  • For best results, use a small amount of liquid detergent
  • Clean it as often as necessary to remove impurities, campfire smoke odors, or kitchen odors
  • Choose a delicate cycle with moderate spinning
  • By reducing the spin - and thus the rotational and twisting movements - you will avoid creasing or damaging your garment.
CAUTION: Do not use powder detergent, fabric softener, or chlorine.

3. Rinsing:

  • To remove any trace of detergent or dirt, we recommend doing a second rinse cycle

4. Ironing:

  • Check the manufacturer's instructions to see if ironing is permitted.
  • If so, iron on a cool setting without using steam.
  • Place a cloth between the iron and the GORE-TEX garment to avoid direct contact.
